How we calculated this
- Ceiling: the manufacturer's published minimum ceiling height when one exists; otherwise the bed's closed height plus 2.5 in.
- Ceiling fans and lights: at least 3 in above the closed height, so the bed can swing past them.
- Wall: at least as long as the cabinet is wide, including any attached shelving.
- Floor: at least as deep as the open bed reaches into the room.
- Comfort: about 30 in of walkway beside a vertical bed, and 12–24 in past the foot, makes it easy to use. These are tips, not pass or fail.
- Verdicts: Yes means your room clears the largest bed in the range. Maybe means it clears smaller models only, so check the spec sheet. No means it's too small for any bed we list.
